Hida Takayama’s Gourmet Food
Hida Takayama Ramen
Hida Takayama ramen is now famous throughout Japan, but locally it is known as chuka soba (Chinese noodles). Many stores simply offer ramen with Chinese pork, seasoned bamboo shoots boiled, and green onions with a soy-sauce flavored base. Takayama has a proportionately large number of ramen shops for its size. A great number of restaurants have perfected their recipes thanks to years of patronage by locals who are particular about their ramen. Please give these restaurants a try during your visit to Hida Takayama. (The picture to the left is Jingoro ramen from Jinpachi’s Yasugawa Restaurant)
Midarashi Dango
Takayama is famous for this popular type of fast food. They are soy-sauced flavored, and not very sweet, but the fragrant scent of the golden brown dumplings draws people from all around. Karelia, and Suzuran sell these treats in the Yasugawa Shopping District. *Please do not buy these dumplings and eat them while walking around—eat them at the stores. The stores have a place to put used skewers, so put them there when you are finished! (Please don’t litter!) (The picture to the right is of dumplings from Suzuran.)
Hida Beef
Hida beef usually refers to high-grade meat from cows belonging to the bloodline of the cow, Yasufuku. In the Yasugawa Shopping District, you can buy tender and delicious Hida Beef as steak and yakiniku at Ajidokoro Alice, Niku no Takumiya, and Maruaki. You can also eat reasonably-priced Hida beef skewers at Takumikan in the Miyagawa morning market side stores.
