Faceless Standees

Introducing some of Yasugawa Shopping District’s famous (?!) faceless standees. Please use them when taking pictures to remember your trip.

Sarubobo

Sarubobo is very famous, so this is the most popular standee. Many people take pictures here.

Location: Area one in front of Takumikan

Miko

Be a priestess with this cutout. If you take a picture here will your fortunes improve??? Probably not…

Location: Area two in front of Kiyomian

Dragon God

This is a cutout standee of the mechanized dragon god doll that is used in the spring Takayama festival. The real doll has a scary, red face, but please take your picture with a kind smile.

Location: Area three in front of Fukuju Lacquerware

Sanbaso

This is also a mechanized sanbaso (noh performer) doll that appears during the spring Takayama festival. The real doll wears an old man mask, but please put a smile in its place.

Location: Area four in front of Tanimatsu

Hotei

In fall’s Takayama festival, a mechanized Hotei (god of abundance) doll appears. Many people enjoy the image of his plump frame riding on the shoulders of a child.

Location: Area five in front of Kong.
